At Grassroots Foundation, We believe holistic support is the key to lasting change, and women are the heart of transformation. This journey started by the unwavering spirit of Sufiya Abdul Wahid Khan, an educator and changemaker who turned adversity into opportunity, empowering hundreds of underprivileged children across Mumbai’s slum communities.

From her early days, Sufiya’s life has been shaped by compassion, courage, and an unshakeable resolve to uplift those left behind. Witnessing firsthand the poverty and hardships that deny children the right to dream, she began her mission by volunteering at government schools and offering free tuition to children in need.

Upon settling in Malad West, Sufiya saw not just poverty, but a lack of hope and opportunity. Supported by her husband, Mr. Abdul Wahid Khan and his family, she visited every home in the area, listening to parents and ensuring every child’s right to education. Even in the face of skepticism and repeated rejection from charitable organizations, Sufiya persisted driven by a belief that “if you work hard, success will find you.”

Her relentless dedication led to the founding of the Grassroots Foundation in 2021. Today, the organization is the proud parent of Indian Glory English High School, a safe haven for 348 children whose lives are being changed through quality education. There are 100+ beneficiaries who are supported in terms of Essential meal items, medical care, and emotional support. Our Foundation is a lifeline, a second chance and a promise of brighter tomorrows.

Grassroots Foundation operates on the principle that true empowerment is not merely personal success, but uplifting an entire community. We are powered by a team of passionate women educators and volunteers, committed to guiding children away from negative influences and towards a future filled with possibility.

Whether facing disruptions during the pandemic or ongoing challenges of poverty and limited resources, Sufiya teaches us that the smallest act of support can create ripples of hope. Through our programs, we strive to nurture potential, foster resilience, and build a foundation where dreams are not deferred, but realized.
